CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Kanawha County circuit judge has ruled a woman accused in a January 2023 murder competent to stand trial.

Amber Wymer

Circuit Judge Kenneth Ballard made the ruling Monday after reviewing a sealed report following a mental health evaluation of Amber Wymer.

Wymer, 43, of Charleston, is charged in the stabbing death of Abigail Marcinkowsky. The 20-year-old Marcinkowsky was Wymer’s boyfriend’s daughter. She was killed at a residence on Bauer Avenue in Charleston.

Ballard set Wymer’s trial for July during Monday’s hearing. She will next be evaluated for criminal responsibility.

Investigators have previously said Wymer and Marcinkowsky were in an argument which escalated into violence.

Wymer remains in the South Central Regional Jail without bail.
