MONTGOMERY, W.Va. — The election for an open seat on Montgomery City Council that ended in a tie earlier this month will be decided by the luck of the draw.
Council meets Thursday night where the tied race between Roger Landers and Shawn Malhorta will be decided by drawing from a deck of cards.
The candidates ended the election and canvass with 109 votes each.
Mayor Greg Ingram said a process using a sealed deck cards will be used. The recorder will open the deck, separate the 13 spades and shuffle them before putting them down on a table. Landers and Malhorta will then draw one card. The one with the highest draw will claim the council seat.
The city consulted with the Secretary of State’s Office.
The meeting is set for 6 p.m. Thursday.
