2 arrested after breaking into Hoover High building

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Two men admitted Tuesday evening to breaking into Herbert Hoover High School to steal copper piping.

James Stump II, 31, of Charleston, and 36-year-old Timothy Nicholas, of Belle, were charged Tuesday afternoon with entry of a building other than a dwelling.

Herbert Hoover High School was closed following the June 2016 flood, with students attending class in portable classrooms at Elkview Middle School.

Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Sgt. Brian Humphreys said the school has been broken into many times over the past several months.

“Deputy sheriffs have taken a lot of reports of thefts for copper and other materials out of the school,” he said.

Nichols and Howard are both being held on $20,000 bonds.
