Festivall 2017 in full swing for Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Festivall 2017 continues this week, with events taking place at the Clay Center and the Charleston Town Center Mall Monday, and more events planned through June 25th, there will be plenty to do in Charleston before Festivall comes to an end.

The Clay Center is holding an art exhibition as part of its Festivall activities. The art being displayed was submitted by local students ranging from kindergarten to 8th grade.

Morgan Robinson, director of communications for the Clay Center, said the event is fun for the community as a whole.

“It is absolutely free to come look at this art,” Robinson said. “We have jewely and pottery pieces, print paintings, water color painting and more.”

Robinson added the event will last throughout Festivall.

“You definetely want to come down to the Clay Center this week and check it out,” Robinson said.

There is a competition for the best art piece and the “People’s Choice Award” that can be voted on at the Clay Center or online on their website.

The Charleston Town Center Mall was also in on the fun Monday.

The mall gave kids the oppurtunity to meet Batman and Wonder Woman, Charleston Mall spokesperson Lisa McCracken said it was the first time Batman and Wonder Woman have had the oppurtunity to come to Charleston.

“One of the things the town center always looks forward to every year is creating a children’s event,” McCracken said. “We like to do it early on a weekday morning when moms and dads are looking for something fun for the small ones.”

The meet and greet gave kids the chance to get a picture with their favorite heroes.

“We have a nice group of kids here excited to meet them and it is a wonderful thing,” McCracken said.

The Charleston Mall has also been holding an art sale for local highschool and college artists.

“We were able to find some great new young artists that competed and won some great prizes,” McCracken said. “We are excited about the oppurtunity through Festivall to find new emerging student artists, that is important to the community and Festivall itself.”

A balloon sculptor will be at the mall tomorrow and be working all day on a new piece.

Other events taking place throughout the week celebrating Festivall 2017 include concerts from the Marcus King Band, Bob Thompson, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, and more. Cruises, a seminar on being a clown, and a dance gala will also be taking place until Festivall ends on June 25th.
