1 killed, 1 injured in plane crash at Yeager Airport

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — One person was killed and another critically injured after a small plane overturned after landing at Yeager Airport in Charleston Saturday afternoon.

At 12:15 p.m. a Cessna 172 Skyhawk flipped over on landing, according to airport spokesman Mike Plante. A small fire broke out and was extinguished. Two people in the plane were pulled from the wreckage and taken to a hospital. One of the victims was pronounced dead a short time later, Plante said.

Yeager Airport, including the runway, reopened at 2:30 p.m. on a normal flight schedule.

The FAA was contacted about the accident and the National Transportation Safety Board was called in to investigate.
