Plans announced regarding early stages of Shawnee Park closure

DUNBAR, W.Va. — Part of the Shawnee Park golf course will be removed starting Oct. 16 as preparations begin to transform the park into a multi-sports complex.

The city of Dunbar sent a notice out Monday regarding changes to the facility, including the shutting off of the irrigation system.

Starting on Oct. 15, the fairways will not be watered.

The course will remain open to the public until it is no longer economically feasible.

The Kanawha County Commission is looking to transform the park into a complex capable of hosting local and regional youth sports tournaments.
