Mooney remains a Trump supporter

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia Second District Congressman Alex Mooney said Friday he still supports Donald Trump for president “wholeheartedly.”

Two more women came forward Friday making allegations that Trump made inappropriate contact with them. Those follow a report earlier this week in the New York Times and last week’s release of a 2005 recording where Trump bragged about forcibly groping women.

Mooney said during a visit to Charleston that he shares the concerns many have about Trump’s actions and allegations but the alternative would be worse for West Virginia.

“I look at the issues. Hillary Clinton has plenty of problems too with her past and her emails,” he said. “Looking at the two candidates—one I think is good for West Virginia and one is not good for West Virginia.”

Mooney was originally a supporter of the presidential campaign of Sen. Ted Cruz but got behind Trump when he became the Republican Party’s nominee. Mooney said Trump will choose a conservative Supreme Court justice and he’ll repeal Obamacare.

“At this point I support him and I’m going to vote for him. I have joint yard signs and that’s what’s best for our state,” Mooney said.
